Asking the Rents

Thanks to Darwin Barton

I decided when I went to college this year that I was going to ask my parents if we could possibly just buy a house for me to live in while I’m in college for me and my friends. It makes financial sense, and will end up making my parents money in the long run. I go to the University of Georgia, and they have some awesome houses in Athens that are reasonably priced. The only setback is that some of them are in poor neighborhoods. My dad was excited about the idea, but mom was worried about our safety. I went to www.Securitychoice.Com to put her mind at ease. We found a perfect house for a great price, and me and three of my best friends moved in last week. They will pay our monthly mortgage, and hopefully we’ll pay off the house and then get money back on it. Plus we’ll do some minor repairs and renovations on the house while we live there. This has to be why I’m their favorite son.

Walking My Dog for Health, Hers and Mine

Guest written by our friend Gladys Fuentes

I find that my beagle, Artie, short for Artimus the Great Goddess of the Hunt, looks forward to her walk each and every evening. As a matter of fact, she let’s me know when she’s ready and then goes crazy when I reach for her leash. Some people may call dogs dumb animals but this just isn’t so. I can see the sadness come over Artie when I have to pass up our nightly walk due to other business.

The funny thing is that I feel it as well when we don’t take our walk. Since trying to keep on a regular schedule, where we walk at least a mile per night, we’ve both lost a bit of weight and feel healthier. We’ve also grown closer, even though my wife puts her foot down when it comes to letting Artie sleep with us.

Because we both like to take our walk at night, while my wife is at work, I make sure that I set the alarm from ALLHOMESECURITY.com/ before we head out. It’s funny that Artie now stops by the key alarm pad to wait for me to set it, making sure I don’t forget. While you may prefer to take your dog for a walk during daylight hours try to do it at the same time every day. Artie wouldn’t have it any other way.

LASIK!!!!***

***UPDATE: It turns out my hubby read the insurance coverage wrong and I didn’t bother to double check it. Our new insurance only covers 15% and we have to pay 85%. The exact reverse of what we were thinking, so I guess I’ll have to wait to get LASIK for a little while longer. Hubby still wants me to go ahead, but unless he can make money appear out of thin air, I’m screwed for the time being. Oh well… If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Hot Damn! I am so excited! I am finally getting LASIK! I will be able to see by mid-May. Jason’s company has a great new eye care insurance as of this month and they cover 85% of LASIK. Hallelujah!

I started wearing glasses in 3rd grade and by 5th I was wearing contacts. I can’t see more than a few fuzzy inches in front of my face without contacts and I HATE BEING NEARLY BLIND! I have wanted corrective eye surgery since I first heard about it years ago. I can’t imagine what it will be like to not have to worry about getting water in my eyes when I shower, getting dry eyes walking through a shopping center, and all the other frustrating things contact wearers deal with. No more taking them out at night and putting them in in the morning. WWWAAAAAAHHHHHHOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

I will miss the excuse at night, “You have to do it, because I can’t see. I’ve already taken my contacts out.” Jason won’t miss that one bit…

Kooky lampshades for my guest bedroom

Guest post written by Valerie Call

I was really excited once I decided that I would make over the guest bedroom. See, ever since we moved into the house, there had been really ugly floral wallpaper up in it that I simply couldn’t stand the sight of. It even made me feel bad that our guests had to look at it before they went to sleep at night!

I thought that a really fun way to decorate the room would be if I just decorate it in a really fun way. My favorite color is pink and I thought it would be fun to decorate the room in that color, in a tasteful way of course. I’ve been getting all kinds of ideas by looking through interior design blogs with my Clearwirelessinternet and I think that it’s going to turn out really well.

I painted the walls this satiny beige color and got a solid colored dusty rose duvet. But I picked out this wild beige and pink leopard print fabric to cover my lampshades with. The rest of the room is pretty normal looking but I like the way that those lampshades pop when you look over the decor.

Become.com

I just found a new and interesting website. It’s www.become.com. It combines shopping and researching into one place. You go to the website with a product, brand, etc. in mind and you can enter it into the search bar and either shop for it or research it. I decided to try entering in, “Ralph Lauren.” First I shopped for it and it brought up all the different Ralph Lauren products and not only told me how much they are, but also each product had a link to an online store where I can purchase it. There’s also a “more info” button that gives you details and related products. See the page here: Ralph Lauren.

I also researched “Ralph Lauren.” You can narrow down the list of websites it brings up by: product reviews, buying guides, discussion forums, and product details. How convenient! This website, www.become.com, is just like pricegrabber.com and cnet.com combined. Now you don’t have to go to multiple websites to get the information you need and want. You can research and buy whatever you’re looking for using one website. It’s perfect for those of us with busing schedules who are looking to simply as many things in life as possible. Check it out: www.become.com.

Great website.

I recently came across this great website: www.repairpal.com. They give you advice on so many different things, including: cars, car repairs, car repair shops and mechanics, and they even have an encyclopedia section. You can look up different types of cars on their Car Info page. They will provide ratings and reviews, questions and answers, common problems, recalls, and tsb’s on whatever car you look up.

If you have to have work done on your car at a repair shop, but you don’t know anything about the repair or you would simply like to know more, you can check out Repairpal’s encyclopedia section. You look up whatever you’re interested in and it will tell you all about the repair, give you recommendations, and explain why that problem happens. After you read about it, you can even see what the repair will cost and find a repair shop in your area.

There are so many great features to www.repairpal.com, so next time you need car advice, check it out.
Here are some examples of pages on their website:
Houston Auto Repair, Acura TL, Oil Change, Brake Job

Our car is having some major issues. The check engine light keeps coming on, the engine randomly revs and slows, and it has this horrible smell. We took it into Jason’s brother Rick and he ran a diagnostics test. It said we need to replace the catalytic converter. I wanted to know more about what exactly the problem was and how much it would cost.

I decided to check out this website: http://www.repairpal.com. I went through the “Get an Estimate” process. You input your car make, model, year, what you need serviced, and your zip code. The page it comes up with has a picture of your car, the estimated price range to repair the problem, which includes both dealer and independent shop estimates, and information about the repair.

I not only learned what a catalytic converter is, but also that I need to figure out why it failed, because it’s almost certainly due to another problem. Here I was thinking I would just replace the converter and everything would be fine. Repair Pal may have just saved me money in the future. Repair Pal also helped me to find repair shops in our area.

Repair Pal doesn’t just do estimates. They also help you find an auto repair shop or mechanic, have a Car Info page with Q&A, common problems, reviews and recalls, and an auto repair encyclopedia. You can even save your car information for future use. Here are some examples of pages on their website:

Dallas auto repair, Chevrolet Silverado, brake job

They are so thorough and I will definitely use this website again!
